How search actually works in this trade
Plumbing search splits cleanly into two halves and most plumber websites only serve one. There is the urgent half — burst pipe, blocked drain, no hot water, and the searcher wants a phone number in under ten seconds. Then there is the planned half — repipes, bathroom rough-ins, hot water system replacement — where people read, compare and take days to decide.
Those two need different pages. An emergency page should load instantly, put the number above the fold, state the areas covered and the response time, and get out of the way. A planned-work page can afford depth: what the job involves, what it costs, what goes wrong when it is done badly.
Then there is geography. A plumber covering fifteen suburbs cannot rank in all fifteen with one homepage. Each area you genuinely work in needs a real page with real detail — not the same paragraph with the suburb name swapped, which Google filters out and which can drag the whole site down with it.
Terms we typically target
- emergency plumber [suburb]
- blocked drain [suburb]
- hot water repair near me
- 24 hour plumber [city]
- burst pipe repair [suburb]
- gas fitter [suburb]
Your actual list comes from the keyword research — these are the shapes, not the final set.

Questions plumbers ask
01How many suburbs can I realistically rank in?
As many as you genuinely service and can write a real page about. Proximity is a ranking factor in Maps, so suburbs far from your base are harder — but organic area pages can still win them.
02My competitor has hundreds of reviews. Can I catch up?
On review count, slowly. But review velocity and recency matter too, and a profile gaining reviews steadily often outperforms one that collected them years ago and stopped.
03Should I run Google Ads as well?
For emergency work, usually yes, at least until organic and Maps are producing. They are not alternatives — ads buy you today, SEO buys you the next three years.
